Power play: Five Killeen ISD student-athletes over the weekend at the Class 6A/5A Division I Region II competition in Del Valle hoisted some heavy weight and qualified for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state tournament.
All five secured their state spots in the unequipped field by finishing first or second in their weight class after completing lifts in three disciplines –– bench press, squat and deadlift.
Killeen High’s Meleana Price was the 6A Region II 242-pound champion, while Precious Tauiliili (second, 220) and Aaliyah Abddeen (242+) also qualified for the Lady Roos who were regional runners-up as a team –– which also included Marianita Sanchez, Alicia Gomez and K’liyah Tripplett
Shoemaker’s Alyssa Dell (second, 114) also is state bound in 6A.
In 5A, Chaparral’s Avery Wiltzius placed second at 132.

The Knights sealed their fortune with a 2-1 victory over visiting Temple on Thursday night to close out the regular season. HHHS rarely blinked during the 12-6A slate, racking up a 10-1-1 record along the way to the top of the standings.

The Nolan Mustangs made it a repeat performance, hoisting the first-place trophy for the second year in a row at the 15th annual KISD Middle School UIL Academic Meet Saturday. Patterson finished second and Smith third. JDA earned most improved. Congratulations to all 700-plus of the UIL student participants, as well as their hard-working coaches! You are all awesome!

The Reeces Creek Elementary School Student Council and Student Ambassadors hosted our annual No Place for Hate talent show for the community! All members had jobs from selling popcorn, selling raffle tickets, working backstage, greeting guests and collecting tickets! Great job to these hard-student workers!
